Michel Morel is an aging actor and businessman. His career has been successful; Michel is quite famous and popular, lives in a hotel, manages well without family, and values his own peace above all.

One morning, Michel finds himself transported to the past. He sees not respectable modern Paris, but a medieval city smelling of filth and fish. He has forgotten his name and calls himself Michel Morel, 65 years old. Looking in the mirror, he sees a slender young man. This is Philippe d'Aunay, Marguerite of Burgundy's lover. When Michel regains consciousness, it turns out that in the commotion caused by his fainting, his assistant was killed and the purse was stolen from the display. Michel finds himself under investigation as a suspect in theft and murder.
Disturbing dreams and visions about his former beloved torment Michel more and more. He doesn't know that somewhere lives a woman who has loved him and waited for a meeting all her life.

Her name is Laura, and she remembers the historical period that Michel recalls better than he does, because Marguerite is herself. All her life she has waited without seeking meetings with Michel, because she knows: she must begin to act only when he is in trouble, when he needs her. One spring, Laura understands: the hour has come. She writes to Michel, and he immediately recognizes her. Former feelings flare up in him, but Michel resists them. The memory of his life as Philippe has been revived in his soul, ancient love crashes down on him, and he wants to save Marguerite and thinks only about the possibility of changing the past.
